As we all know, the economic situation in our community has been difficult for many of our school families. We have families who currently send their children to Our Lady Queen of Martyrs School, and make financial sacrifices to to continue to do so. It is through generous donors like you that we are able to lend a hand to those facing the need for financial assistance due to the lost of a job or other hardships. Are you able to HELP?

The Gucciardo Grant provides a yearly award of $1,000 to a student entering kindergarten at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Catholic School through graduation of eighth grade ($9,000 total). Financial need is a consideration.
Gucciardo Grant
All incoming kindergarten students who have attended pre/jr-kindergarten at OLQM are eligible to apply for this grant.
The recipient’s guardian must be willing to chair a committee on one of our major fundraisers such as Oktoberfest or Blarney Blast.
Applicants must have attended OLQM pre/jr-kindergarten.
The applicant parent or guardian must be willing to sign a contract that this scholar fund is awarded to a student entering kindergarten and will be renewed each year through 8th grade as long as the donor continues to be a contributing member of the OLQM community. If a family voluntarily leaves OLQM before completion of 8th grade, they fully understand they will be required to pay back the grant to OLQM in the full amount received. The only exception would be moving out of the area (defined as a 45 mile radius or loss of job).
The recipient must attend Mass regularly.
The recipient’s parent/guardian must be willing to write an annual update in the form of a letter to the donor as to how the student is doing at OLQM.
Brian McConnell, a 1997 graduate of OLQM, was diagnosed with Osteo Sarcoma (bone cancer) in the spring of 2000 during his junior year at Brother Rice High School. He missed his senior year but was invited to participate in the graduation ceremonies where he was presented with "The Spirit" award by the faculty and staff. Brian continued his education by taking two classes at Brother Rice and two classes at Oakland Community College, and thus was awarded his high school diploma in the spring of 2002.
Brian continued to fight his illness by taking chemotherapy treatments at William Beaumont Hospital and experimental inhaler treatments through the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
Brian's compassion, love for life, passion for sports and sense of humor never waned during his illness. He was able to dictate letters to friends and family as well as select gifts that were to be given after his death on April 1, 2003.
The Brian Patrick McConnell Scholarship Foundation was established in 2003 for the purpose of providing financial aid to a graduate of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs who will be attending Brother Rice High School. It was Brian's wish to establish a scholarship program that would link both schools that he attended.
Any donation toward the scholarship would be appreciated. All contributions are tax deductible. For more information regarding the foundation and events benefiting the foundation, go to The Brian McConnell Foundation.
