Baptism is our birth as Christians; it is an immersion into the life of Christ, making us His disciples and members of the Body of Christ and members of the community of believers here at OLQM. In Baptism we become a dwelling place of the most Blessed Trinity, a holy temple. It is the first of the seven sacraments and the “door” which gives us access to the other sacraments. Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist constitute the sacraments of initiation that give us a share in God’s life and make us full members of Christ’s Church.
The following steps are necessary to be baptized at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs:
Families must be registered members of the parish. You may register in person at the Parish Office during regular business hours.
For adults or children aged 7 years or older, please contact Mary Garlow, Director of Faith Formation and Evangelization, through email at [email protected] or call the Faith Formation Office at (248) 647-6068 to determine the next steps.
For children under the age of 7 years, you may register your child for Baptism by contacting Pastoral Associate, Michael Hughes, in the Parish Office at (248) 644-8620. Please note: (1) you may not register an infant for Baptism until the child is born; and (2) the names of godparents should be provided at the time of registration.
Infant Baptisms take place on the third Sunday of each month at 1:00 p.m., immediately following our Noon Mass.
For your first child being Baptized, both parents are required to attend the Baptism Preparation/Formation Program, normally held the Thursday before the Baptism at 6:30 p.m. in the Church Library. Other family members, such as the godparents or grandparents, are welcome to attend the session if they wish.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our Pastoral Associate, Michael Hughes, at 248-644-8620 or [email protected] at any time!
