First Communion is a wonderful, exciting milestone in a child’s journey of faith. Typically celebrated in the second grade, it is a special event involving the whole family as well as the entire parish community.
To receive First Communion, a child must first have received that sacraments of Baptism and Reconciliation. Preparation for the sacraments always begins at birth but formal preparation takes place through the Sunday liturgies and catechetical instruction provided through the OLQM School or Faith Formation programs.
During their formation children and families participate in retreats, workshops and at home fun and interactive lessons. In all these settings the children encounter Jesus, are awakened to God’s love and learn that they belong to a community of faith that will nourish and sustain them throughout their lives.
