The Church names six tasks of catechesis which form the framework for our faith formation programs and processes for the reception of the sacraments. These six tasks are:
Knowledge of the Faith
Liturgical Education
Moral Formation
Learning to Pray
Education for Community Life
Missionary Discipleship & Service
At OLQM, we incorporate these tasks with the goal of preparing children for a lifelong relationship with Jesus and the Church.
Faith Formation is for children in grades 1 through 8. The programs are:
Monday after school program is for children in grades 1-8 meets weekly. The class schedule closely follows the Birmingham public school calendar. Grade level classes are taught by well-developed and prepared catechists who participate in Archdiocesan certification classes.
Sunday Family program is for children in grades 1-8 meets. This program meets once per month beginning with the 12 pm Liturgy. Parents and children both receive instruction and support and the majority of the lessons are taught at home.
